Ageless Festival Leeds
26th October 2019
Once again DANCE SIX-0 were thrilled to be chosen from over a hundred applicants to perform at this prestigious festival, which is becoming an international event. Ageless is a 2-day festival driven by a desire to shine a light on exceptional work which celebrates, challenges and deliberately disregards age. We presented Head in My Bag, a work by Liz Aggiss which is fast becoming our most well known and requested piece – pushing the boundaries and preconceptions of what’s expected of older people’s dance.
Review from On:Yorkshire Magazine ‘… a cheeky two-fingers-up piece on ageism called ‘Head in My Bag’, presented by DANCE SIX-O, when a row of punked-up dancers tipped the contents of their handbags upside down – along with all stereotyped associations – and rammed the bags on their heads, then rocked out blindly, with gleeful, snarling abandon.’

Other older dance groups completed the bill – Gerry’s Attic from Bristol and Caribbean Orchid from London.

DANCE SIX-0 were privileged to be chosen to perform at the Elixir Dance Festival in the Lilian Bayliss Studio. Seven non-professional older dance groups from across the country took to the stage and showed the audience that there is no age limit to dancing. DANCE SIX-0 performed Head in my Bag, which was choreographed by the fabulous and outrageous Liz Agiss.
Audience member response: ‘I saw Dance Six-0’s performance of Head in My Bag – and it just knocked my socks off! I saw all three programmes of performances across the festival and this was by far the stand out performance for me. So huge congratulations to the company and choreographer for making such an extraordinary piece of dance art.’
Producer of Elixir as Sadlers Wells: ‘WOW- I just wanted to say congratulations to DANCE SIX-0 for your outstanding performance last night. Please pass on my heartfelt thanks to the company for bringing their talent and dedication to the Lilian Baylis stage. We are very privileged to be able to programme work like yours.’
