Dementia Friendly Dance

DANCE SIX-O trialled a new series of dance sessions for people living with dementia in 2017 which were led by Rebecca Seymour. Supported by the Salisbury local Area Board and in partnership with the Alzheimer’s Society, initial taster sessions led to a series of sessions linking to Singing for the Brain and held at St George’s Hall, Harnham. Further taster sessions were held at Cedars Care Home in Landford in spring 2018 led by Roz Conlon.

DANCE SIX-0 went on to deliver a short project over 8-weeks at Cedars Care Home, delivered by Louisa White of Joyful Jams. The project included staff induction sessions (demonstrating session activity and giving insight into the benefits of different tasks), as well as building up our company members confidence and skills in leading dance.

Each session included gentle movement, creativity, props and music with the aim to increase wellbeing through dance. People living with dementia and their carers came to join us to explore a fun movement session.
